Technology: Security Camera System

One of the most important technology projects while I was CTO for NCTD was the replacement of an antiquated analog security CCTV environment with a comprehensive, integrated, network digital video recording system.  This system consolidates feeds from across 8 rail stations, four maintenance facilities, and a transit center into one unified console and recording solution.

The system can handle feeds from over 300 cameras and provides a foundation for future growth.  Network architecture and design services performed in conjunction with Datel Systems (especially their network architect Chris Schneider) in San Diego. Unified console provided by OnSSI, with centralized network digital video recorders through HP, and new cameras from Axis Communications.

  • Project Budget:  $1.75 million
  • Project Scope:  100% of the security camera environment for commuter rail and maintenance facilities
  • Source of Funds:  Secured competitive grants
  • Technologies:  OnSSI, HP SAN, Cisco, Sony, Axis
  • Role:  Technology Leader/Program Manager/CTO&CSO for NCTD
