• Solar in Rail Right-of-Way

This project investigated whether it is feasible to install solar panels in non-traditional, complex, harsh environments.  The Rail Right-of-Way (ROW) presents challenging conditions for solar panels: vibrations, rocks, vandalism, and other harsh conditions.  After investigation, the project team chose a photovoltaic laminate product used in military applications to stand up to the harsh conditions.  The project included scientific study, creation of industry-standard language for bid proposals, and ROI analysis.
