• Rail Maintenance Solar Project

Project/Program Manager for installation of a $1.9 solar investment at Escondido, CA light rail maintenance facility. This project was part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) program.  Project oversight of contractors including Martifer Solar and Dudek.  I developed all grant proposal, return-on-investment, project design, and project implementation documentation.  Project was delivered on-time and on-budget. Project included the repair of roofs, remediation of a bioswale, and installation of an innovation in-ground drip irrigation mesh systems to minimize water usage at the facility.

This project proved highly successful, demonstrating that it was possible to run the entire rail maintenance yard on solar power during the day, thus offsetting the highest utility costs incurred at that facility.  The project eventually led to other sustainability investments, including replacement of lights and upgrades and enhancements to irrigation systems.  One significant benefit was that the previous “bioswale” had instead become a dirt basin that did not retain water during storms.  After project implementation, vegetation was restored and thrived near the ground-mounted solar panels.
